Disability Sports Australia (DSA) is thrilled to announce the launch of a pilot initiative aimed at promoting active lifestyles and inclusivity for adults with disabilities.

Under the name ‘Abilities Unleashed - Adults,’ this national program is a significant move forward in DSA's vision of active lives for all Australians with disabilities.

A pilot activation of Abilities Unleashed - Adults is set to take place at the upcoming Variety Activate Inclusion Sports Day event in Newcastle on Thursday 7 September.

Abilities Unleashed – Adults is an initiative delivered in partnership with local councils that encourages and empowers adults with disabilities to explore active pathways in their local area. Each day intends to improve participants’ physical and mental well-being, social engagement, and personal growth. Abilities Unleashed - Adults represents the beginning of a participants’ active journey. In a fun, safe, and inclusive environment, people with disabilities will have the chance to connect with local adaptive sport and active recreation opportunities.

Collaborating with local inclusive program providers, disability service organisations, and sport organisations, this event serves as a vital platform for communities to connect with individuals with disabilities. Having everyone together in one place will allow participants to freely absorb local resources and services that support their active lifestyle goals.

DSA is proud to have Bupa Australia as the Official Health Care Partner for the Abilities Unleashed - Adults program, whose commitment to help people live longer, healthier and happier lives and to make a better world resonates with this program. Abilities Unleashed DSA values the importance of partnering with likeminded organisations with support by MatchWorks and the Australian Sports Commission.

Kristy Rohrer, National Program Manager of Abilities Unleashed, stated, "Abilities Unleashed - Adults is a testament to our dedication to promoting active lives for all Australians with disabilities regardless of their age. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore their capabilities and enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle. We are excited to see the smiles and enjoyment amongst our participants across the country.

DSA is grateful to our founding program partners for their support in this pilot phase of the program.

DSA strives towards an Australia where all people with disabilities can be active. There are a range of pilot events set to be delivered nationally. The launch of this new program provides more opportunities for individuals with disabilities to explore their capabilities and embrace the joy and connection of physical activity.
