Disability Sports Australia (DSA) and Australian Dragon Boat Federation (AusDBF) are steering towards a journey of accessibility. The strategic collaboration falls under DSA's Sports Incubator program, designed to empower sporting organisations to enhance inclusive pathways for individuals with disability.

The Sports Incubator program supports national sporting organisations and recreation program providers to initiate and grow social and active pathways for people with disabilities.

Through the partnership and tailored support AusDBF will have access to resources that will enable the organisation to become more inclusive of people with disability.

The long-term goal of this partnership is increased participation of ParaDragons and more people with disabilities engaging in the sport.

"We are thrilled to welcome Australian Dragon Boat Federation into our Sports Incubator program," said Ayden Shaw - General Manager of DSA.

"Australian Dragon Boat Federation are already doing tremendous things in the inclusion space, we hope by providing access to our networks, resources and knowledge we can build on this great work ensure more people with disability can participate in this great sport”

As part of this collaboration, DSA will work with AusDBF to audit existing policies, process and procedures to ensure it is disability inclusive, together the organisations will also facilitate training and education to deepen understanding of disability inclusion in the context of dragon boat racing.

"By partnering with Disability Sports Australia, we are moving towards a more inclusive future for dragon boat racing in Australia," said Ian Gearey, Diversity and Inclusion Director of Australian Dragon Boat Federation. "We believe in the power of sports to bring communities together and celebrate its place of belonging. This collaboration will not only enrich our sport but also create new pathways for people with disabilities to experience dragon boat racing."

The Sports Incubator program's overarching goal is to create environments so that people with disabilities can thrive and ensure organisations feel more confident and capable delivering accessible programs.
