DISABILITY SPORTS AUSTRALIA BRINGS ACTIVATE INCLUSION SPORTS DAY TO WESTERN AUSTRALIA

 Thursday, 8 September 2022

Disability Sports Australia is excited to be collaborating with its members Rebound WA and Western Australia Disabled Sports Association (WADSA) to pilot its Activate Inclusion Sports Days in Western Australia for the first time later this month.

This event coincides with 12 months of sustained national growth with the program now being delivered in every state and territory enabling more students with disability, aged 5-18, the opportunity to be aware of sporting pathways that may be available.

The Activate Inclusion Sports Day program is a ground-breaking initiative focused on providing sporting pathways for students aged 5 – 18 years with a physical, intellectual or sensory disability.

These programs encourage and empower kids with disability to explore sporting and active recreation opportunities in their local community in a fun, safe and inclusive environment.

The days will showcase a range of activities in order to promote future participation in physical activity. The program allows for students to identify sports and activities they enjoy and be provided with support and contacts for future participation and pathways.

This event will be hosted by the Leisurelife Centre on Wednesday 21st September 2022.

The event will showcase a range of activities including Lawn Bowls, Wheelchair Rugby, AFL and Cricket.

Activate Inclusion Sports Days, National Program Manager Kristy Rohrer, is delighted to see the program in Western Australia for the first time. ''Activate Inclusion Sports Days provide children with disability the opportunity to try sports in a fun, safe and inclusive environment and we are so excited to partner with Rebound WA and WADSA to bring this program to the children of Western Australia''

WADSA CEO, Conor Mahady, said “It’s great to have the Activate Inclusion Days being delivered here in WA, they provide a great opportunity for young people to find a range of sporting pathways. We look forward to continuing to provide support to participants and the member sports in the future whilst continuing to collaborate with DSA”

Rebound Western Australia CEO Simon Mead agreed stating “Rebound WA is thrilled to partner with Disability Sports Australia, and WADSA to bring an Activate Inclusion Sports Day to Perth.”

”It is so important that youth with disabilities have the opportunities to explore and try out sports that can foster community and healthy competition throughout their lives."

“We’ll also introduce attendees to Wheelchair Rugby- which is a great option for those who would enjoy a “demolition derby-like” team sport.”

Activate Inclusion Sport Days encourage and empower kids to explore sporting and active recreation opportunities in their local community.

On behalf of Disability Sports Australia, we would like to thank The Leisurelife centre for hosting the event, and thanks also to our event partners WADSA and Rebound WA in addition to our member sports for their participation.
