2018 Multi-Disability Lawn Bowls National Championships

The 2018 Multi-Disability Lawn Bowls National Championships, otherwise known as the Multibowl, was held at Kardinya Bowling Club, WA from Sunday, 20 – Friday, 25 May 2018. The 2018 Multibowl had 48 competitors from New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania vying for National titles.

Across the six days of competition, the athletes competed in Men’s B5/6 Singles, Men’s B7/8 Singles, Women’s B5/6 Singles, Women’s B7/8 Singles, Men’s B5/6 Pairs, Men’s B7/6 Pairs, Women’s Pairs and Open Triples.

Despite the rain on the final day of competition, across the six days spectators were able to witness some excellent competition with some nail-biting finals.

Disability Sports Australia would like to thank Bowls WA and Kardinya Bowling Club and their fantastic staff and volunteers for hosting the event, Rossmoyne Bowling Club for generously hosting the final day of competition due to wet weather, Government of Western Australia Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Government of Western Australia Department of Communities and City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey for their generous support, the Bowls Executive Committee and Mr. Steve Flynn, Tournament Director for making the 2018 Multibowl a success.

Clover/Lester Encouragement Award
Teams were asked to nominate a bowler who is relatively new to the sport at a National level and who set a good example at all times on and off the greens, displayed good sportsmanship, encouraged others and has the potential to become a good bowler. This years recipient has overcome great adversity, rediscovered lawn bowls, became Club Champion and won her first Multibowl game in 2018. The 2018 Clover/Lester Encouragement Award recipient is Lyn Hamblin from Victoria. 

Graham Golley Memorial Award
For achievement in the true spirit of Lawn Bowls at International Competition. DSA, as the governing body for multi-disability lawn bowls in Australia, in consulation with Bowls Australia and the Bowls Australia National Head Coach, unanimously award the Graham Golley Memorial Award to the 2018 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal Men's Triple's Team consisting of Bonnell / Hanson / Thornton. 

Interstate Aggregate Award
The Interstate Aggregate Trophy is awarded to the state who has the highest points on aggregate across disciplines and classes and divided by the number of players on the team. This years winner was Queensland.
