Australian Athletes with a Disability The Staff and Board of Australian Athletes with a Disability would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. ASADA Anti-Doping Policy In accordance with a newly revised World Anti-Doping Code, AAWD and its members were required to update their anti-doping policy and implement it from 1 January 2009. AAWD will be adopting the APC’s anti-doping policy as approved by ASADA as WADA compliant, and as amended from time to time. A copy of the policy will be available from the AAWD website in the New Year. Funding Grants The next round of funding grants will open in February 2009. Further information and application forms will be available from the AAWD website at that time. Wheelchair Sports Australia Acknowledgement Congratulations to Ray Epstein for recently being awarded Runner Up in the 2008 Equity Trustees Not For Profit CEO Awards in the Long Term Achiever Category. Currently the CEO of Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association, Epstein has lead the organisation since 1998. Wheelchair Basketball Congratulations goes to our Paralympic gold medal winning Rollers Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team and also to our bronze medal winning Gliders Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team. The Roller’s result saw them take out the Team of the Year Award at the recent Paralympian of the Year Awards. WNWBL and NWBL The dates and hosts for the 2009 National Women’s Wheelchair Basketball League are currently being finalised. Boccia Cerebral Palsy Boccia Australia National Championships The dates for the Cerebral Palsy Boccia Australia National Championships are May 4-8 2009 inclusive. Expressions of Interest will be available in January 2009 both online at www.boccia.com.au and by emailing bocciaaustralia@powerup.com.au. If anyone is interested in playing or learning about Boccia, please contact the National Development Officer, Lynn Kavanagh at bocciaaustralia@powerup.com.au or by contacting Cerebral Palsy Boccia Australia, 2 Duchess Place, Cleveland, Qld 4163. Para-Cycling Confirmed Cycling Australia Events Lawn Bowls The 2009 National Championships will be held from 22-27 June at Chermside in Brisbane, Queensland. The event will form part of selection for the Australian team to compete at the IWAS World Championships to be held in Adelaide, South Australia in September and October 2009. Further details will be available in the New Year. Wheelchair Rugby 2009 NWRL Team entries for the 2009 National Wheelchair Rugby League are now open.
