GRANTS
Applications
are now open for AAWD's first round of funding for 2005-06. Applications
close Friday 23 September 2005. Please note funding applications
must be endorsed by Wheelchair Sports Australia, Australian Sports
Organisation for the Disabled or Cerebral Palsy - Australian Sport
Recreation Federation. For more detailed information and the Application

Basketball
NRMA Insurance
National League
The finals of the Women's National Wheelchair Basketball League
were held in Melbourne 20-21 August. After an intense weekend the
Hills Hornets emerged on top taking out the Grand Final 56-28 over
Knox Raiders. The Norths Bears took third place defeating Qld Storm
62-42. Individual award winners for the season were:

IWBF U22
World Championships
Congratulations to the Spinners who brought home the Bronze medal
from Birmingham. The Aussie team lost only 1 match in the entire
tournament - the semi-final against Japan. Well done to all of you
on a great performance on and off the court.
Boccia
Asia & South Pacific Boccia Championships
Boccia Australia will be sending a team to the Asia & South
Pacific Boccia Championships to take place in Kuala Lumpur between
15th -22nd September 2005. The team for these championships has

The 2005 Australian
8 & 9 Ball Championships were hosted by Wheelchair Sports Victoria
12-14 August 2005. Results are as follows:

Wheelchair Rugby League
The 2005 National Wheelchair Rugby League wrapped up with the Grand
Final on 21 August between SA and QLD. Despite being hit by illness,
the Queensland Crocs really took it to the South Australian Sharks
and the 2 teams battled out one of the closest matches in a number
of seasons going goal for goal for pretty much the entire match
until the Sharks eventually snatched victory 43-42 in the last 10
seconds. This brought to an end this year's domestic season. Individual
award winners were:

2005 Australian
Wheelchair Rugby Open
The three National League teams of SA, QLD and NSW were joined by
teams from VIC and the NZ provinces of Canterbury and Auckland for
a weekend of fierce Rugby action 19-21 August at the Sydney Academy
of Sport, Narrabeen. When all was said and done, the NZ teams emerged
to battle out a thrilling final culminating in a 35-34 victory to
Auckland. NSW defeated SA 47-46 in an equally exciting Bronze medal
play-off. Victoria earlier defeated Qld for 5th place when the Queenslanders
could not field a legal team due to illness and defaulted the match.

Wheelchair Sports Australia is pleased to announce the appointment
of Evan Bennett as the new National Team Coach for Wheelchair Rugby.

been invited to the Australian Selection Camp to be held 15-18 September

The 2005 Table Tennis Nationals were held at Sydney Olympic Park

Oceania Women's Sitting Volleyball Qualifying Tournament
The 2006 Asia Oceania Women's Sitting Volleyball Qualifying Tournament
will be held in Newcastle 11-18 February 2006. This event is being
financially supported by the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation
and the Newcastle City Council.
We are currently
calling for applications for the position of Event Manager for this
