Wheelchair Basketball
WNWBL and NWBL
In an exciting development, Wheelchair Sports Australia (WSA) and Basketball Australia (BA) will officially partner up to coordinate the 2009 Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League (WNWBL). Due to rising costs, the WNWBL was at risk of losing one round of the competition. As the underpinning program of the Australian Gliders Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team, the partnership will allow the WNWBL to continue in its current format of four rounds and a final series. On the back of the Gliders championship win at the Osaka Cup in Japan last Saturday and bronze at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, it is hoped that this partnership will greatly assist the development of women’s wheelchair basketball in Australia as well as the Gliders’ goal of gold in London 2012.
For information on the WNWBL visit http://wnwbl.sports.org.au and for the NWBL visit http://nwbl.sports.org.au. A new website for the WNWBL will be available in the near future.

The organisers are waiting on responses from Scotland, Ireland, South Africa and India on the possibility of them also attending the games.

Football will be making its first appearance at the Australian Paralympic Youth Games in September 2009 and the various states are working hard towards getting junior teams there. Both NSW and QLD already have sides, but it is hoped that South Australia and Victoria will also have sides as well.

Premier’s Award for Paris
Adapted from APC Media, from the APC website
Paralympic cyclist and Wheelchair Sports NSW member, Jayme Paris was recently presented the prestigious NSW Premier’s Award in recognition of her outstanding athletic achievements and advocacy work. At her first Paralympic Games, Jayme won a bronze medal in the 500m time trial in the LC3-4/CP3 class in Beijing. Away from the track, Jayme also works tirelessly to educate people about living with a disability as a Telstra Paralympic Education Program Speaker and as a NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Ambassador.
Lawn Bowls
The 2009 National Championships will be held from 22-27 June 2009 at Chermside in Brisbane, Queensland. Unfortunately due to a clash with another international event, the IWAS World Championships which were to be held in Adelaide, South Australia in September and October 2009 have been postponed until 2010. Further details will be available in the near future.
