2010 is the 21st year of the Summer Down Under Road and Track Racing Series, hosted by Wheelchair Sports NSW. The Summer Down Under Series 2010 welcomed the return of the prestigious Oz Day 10km Road Race held on Australia Day throughout the Rocks District. The overcast weather on the day was made up for by the Opera House and Harbour Bridge providing some of the many scenic backdrops around the course. Plenty of spectators came down to cheer on the athletes and witness Kurt Fearnley claim his 6th consecutive Oz Day 10Km Road Race Title in a tight finish with only 6 seconds separating 1st and 6th place in the Mens Open Race. This is an amazing feat not yet achieved by any other athlete in this event.
Other results from the day: Edith Hunkeler (SUI) 2nd win (her other win was in 2008) (Open Women); Matthew Lack (NZ) 3rd consecutive win (Juniors); Santiago Sanz (ESP) 4th win (2005, 2006, 2007 – T52 Men); Michelle Stilwell (CAN) 3rd consecutive win (T52 women); Scott Parson (USA) 4th win (2000, 2001, 2002 – Masters). |
